When the deaf lead the blind.
The Fearless Dragon, the pionnered Hong Kong Running club headed to Doi Inthanon Thailand by UTMB to tackle the Rajapuek 10 by pair, with deaf guides leading blind runners. Ping Yip TANG 🇭🇰, shared with us his extraordinary adventure:
"December 10, 2023, was indeed a very memorable day. As a visually impaired athlete, it was an exciting yet nerve-wracking experience to travel abroad to participate in the 10-kilometer Asia-Pacific UTMB World Series Major.
I embarked on this journey with my dear comrades who are deaf, visually impaired, and fully sighted. We aimed to conquer the peaks and race against the clock, pushing ourselves to climb slopes resembling the Kai Kung Leng, with my legs striving to ascend while being cautious not to slip. Then we had to descend slopes reminiscent of the Sharp Peak, where the ground was covered in marbles, making it thrilling and dangerous. We also find and run on flat roads as much as possible to save time.
While walking and running, I placed my trust in my companion, Paul. He is highly experienced and knowledgeable. The pace of our running and fast walking was entirely under Paul's control. I enjoy adventure and seek thrills because it's not fun without taking risks, and it won't be stimulating without enough challenges. As long as we prioritize safety and trust our companions' guidance, we can surely finish the race smoothly, penning down the entire journey.
I was honored to participate in this trail race in Chiang Mai, and I am grateful to always have my dear companions by my side."
Let's give big KUDOS to Ping Yip & Paul 🙌
